What is Lip Blushing?

Lip blushing is a cosmetic lip tattoo procedure designed to enhance the natural color and shape of the lips. Also known as lip blush tattoo or lip micropigmentation, this semi-permanent makeup technique involves depositing pigments into the upper layers of the skin to create a subtle and long-lasting tint on the lips. The goal of natural lip blushing is to achieve a soft and natural appearance, providing a more defined outline and adding a touch of color to the lips.

What to Expect During your First Lip Blushing Session

  • During the procedure: A specialized tattoo machine or handheld tool is used to implant pigments into the lips, creating a customized hue that complements the individual's skin tone and preferences. The pigments used are typically semi-permanent and fade over time, allowing for adjustments or color changes in the future.
  • Lip blushing is sought after for various reasons: including the desire for fuller-looking lips, improved lip symmetry, and the convenience of waking up with a subtle yet polished lip color. This cosmetic enhancement can be a suitable option for those who want to enhance their natural beauty without the daily maintenance of traditional lipstick or lip liners.

Lip Blushing FAQ’s

How many appointments are needed for lip blushing?

At least 2, possibly 3. You will have your touch-ups 6-8 weeks after your initial appointment.

How long does lip blushing last?

After completing your touchup(s), your results should last between 2-5 years. Additional touch ups may be required depending on the person and look desired.

Does lip blushing hurt?

Pain levels vary from person to person. I do not use topical numbing as it can make your healing process more difficult. With the technique I use, most people say they range from a pain level of 1-3 out of 10, even without numbing.

How long does lip blushing take?

The procedure takes about 3 hours. The consultation and shaping of the lips take about half that time. Tattooing is about 90 minutes. It can be helpful to bring earbuds as you will not be able to talk.

Pre-care for this procedure is ESSENTIAL. If you come into your appointment with dry/chapped lips, we cannot work on you which will result in a late cancel fee. Please follow pre-care instructions carefully.

What if I have lip fillers, can I still get lip blushing?

If you’ve had filler injected into your lips, please send a picture of your lips when inquiring about your appointment.

Will ink get in my mouth?

Some might but it is completely safe. A gauze or guard may also be inserted to catch most of the ink.

Can I wear lipstick after lip blushing?

Yes! After your healing is complete you can resume as normal, however many people end up loving their new enhanced color and only feel the need to use some gloss or chapstick.

Can anyone get lip blushing?

Lip blushing is not for everyone. Below is a list of contraindications. Please read the carefully and if any apply to you, this procedure is not recommended.

  • If you are a smoker
  • If you have a history of MRSA
  • If you have psoriasis in the treatment area.
  • If you have an auto-immune disease.
  • If you have thyroid/graves disease (medication may cause pigment to not retain properly).
  • If you have anemia (pigment may not retain properly).
  • If you have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
  • If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy.
  • If you are pregnant or nursing. (You cannot have this service. No exceptions.)
  • If you have Diabetes type 1 or 2 (due to slow healing and infection, color may or may not retain well).
  • If you are under a doctor’s care and have questions about being able to have this procedure, it is your responsibility to meet with your doctor and get written approval.
  • If you are prone to cold sores.
What if I get cold sores after lip blushing?

You MUST get an antiviral prescription from your doctor to start taking 48 hours before through 3 days after the procedure. The process of lip blushing in itself cannot cause cold sores, but the trauma can result in an outbreak of the virus that is already present in your system. An outbreak can lead to patchiness in the healed results.

YOU CANNOT HAVE THIS PROCEDURE DONE DURING AN ACTIVE OUTBREAK. You should wait at least 4 weeks from last outbreak.
